How to play Elysion
Eight days on the road to the blessed fields
You are a hero on an eight-day journey between Olympus and the gates of hell. Each day you enter one realm. At the end you look back over the journey; most glory wins.
Each day everyone picks one realm from their hand at the same time; you can switch until everyone has picked. Then all are revealed and placed to the right of each journey.
If your new realm's number is higher than your previous one, you draw Blessings: one, plus one for each Charon's coin on your journey and Blessings. No Blessings on the first day.
Then, from the lowest realm played to the highest, each player takes one realm from the row and, if they drew Blessings, keeps one. The realm nobody took leaves the game and a new row is dealt. On day 8 nobody takes a realm.
The look back: all realms turn face down, then turn back from the last day to the first. Each realm scores with only the realms after it (itself included) and all your Blessings in sight. Then every Blessing scores with everything in sight.
A realm with an offering scores only if those resources (Golden Fleece, amphora, lotus) are in sight when it turns back. Nothing is spent.
Most glory wins. A tie goes to the lowest total of day numbers on the journey.
The Constellations (add-on): 15 star realms repeat base numbers. On equal numbers the constellation counts as higher. In the look back your constellations stay face up from the start, and so does every realm whose number ends in the same digit: they count for every realm. Some constellations need 4 cards of one faction, 5 coins or 5 gates in sight; some ask you to give up Blessings to score, which then count for nothing after.
Beyond the Styx (add-on): two Shades lie face up beside the row, and the Shade deck lies face up too, so you can see the next one. At the end of your take turn (after taking a realm and keeping a Blessing) you may take a Shade if your realms and Blessings meet its goal and the realm you played today or the Blessing you just kept adds to it; it goes under today's realm. One Shade a turn; if two answer, you pick. The Shades by the row are refilled to two at the end of the day. A realm and its Shade count as one card: the Shade's icons count when the realm is in sight, a gate on either of them counts only once, and the Shade scores right after its realm, with no offering.
